BenRiach from 1975… that sounds familiar. Oh, yes, I already tried the 33 Year Old on port cask that couldn’t really convince me. But I also had the 35 Year Old 1975 for Asta Morris which was the best BenRiach I have ever tasted (along with a 1976 for La Maison du Whisky). This one is from a bourbon cask.

Oh, my, this nose immediately immerses you in a tropical fruit salad. Grapefruit and pineapple in the lead, followed closely by oranges, melon and black grapes. Gingerbread and honey. Not overly complex (in fact, not at all), but it does not need to be. This is simply marvelous.

It is extremely sweet and creamy on the palate. It is all passion fruit now, with quite a bit of pepper. The honey and oranges are there, but do not force themselves upon the taste buds. This is very enjoyable. Adding water? Now way! Much too good straight.

While the finish offers nothing new, it is wonderfully long and it does not need anything else to paste a smile on my face. It lingers on spices.

This is the kind of whisky that will make you miss your favourite tv show without a second though. Yummie! This BenRiach was bottled for The Whisky Agency, run by Carsten Ehrlich (the man behind the Limburg Whisky Fair in Germany). He made an excellent cask selection.
