After the success of the 8-part series Lads of Lobland, the Belgian Bring Your Own Bottle Club – ‘biopsy’ for short – started a new series under the banner ‘Mobsters on Mopeds’. I just love that label, but I am of course more interested in the contents. This is a Blair Athol that, after a maturation of 18 years, was bottled at cask strength. Just 80 bottles were launched.

Nice, layered nose on Turkish Delight, sultanas, apples and pears and some gooseberries. Some toffee in the background, as well as some icing sugar. Apricot pie after a few moments. Some eucalyptus for a fresh touch. Nice!

Powerful, spicy yet fresh on the palate. I do get some more citrus next to the white fruit now. The spices are quite strong with liquorice and cinnamon, but mostly white pepper. Peach in syrup? It becomes sweeter as I take a second and third sip. It even turns somewhat tropical. And this from a bourbon cask…

Lovely long, warme and spicy finish – but it remains fruity sweet until the death.

Nice start of a new series. I am a fan already! Thank you, Dominic, for allowing me to get bottle 80/80. The numerical idiot in me does a happy dance.

They need to keep more of their output aside for single malts and less going into Bell's basic blend.
