This bottling is quite unusual, but the Burnside name is well known by Balvenie, which sometimes releases it with just a touch of Glenfiddich (about one percent) added. 52% ABV at cask strength.

Nose: Subtle sweetness that is nonetheless quite powerful if complexity is judged by the amount of "things going on" in the nose, so to speak, rather than the bombast of the whole impression. Caramel of the finest variety; honey suckle blossom, clover, just a hint of oak, creamery butter, Turkish Delight, cashews, honey, halvah.

Mouth: Anjou pear; Asian pear; lemon drops, gum drops, sugar plumbs, confectioner's sugar; Russian tea cakes (these days more often known as Mexican wedding cookies); hint of oak; agave syrup; cashew.

Finish: Medium, but delightful. The fruits grow prominent with virtually no oak to speak of. But the wood is not missed, as a wave of caramel signals the death.
