On 27th April 2011 A.D. Rattray bottled this bourbon cask from 1995 in their ‘Cask Collection’, meaning it’s a single cask at cask strength, in this case a hefty 60,4%.

The nose is very sweet. I get violets (both the flowers and the purple wine gums), melon and fresh sawdust. Even something that smells like the burnt edge of a freshly sawed plank. Does that make sense? After a few minutes, even something meaty appears… with a trace of smoke and a pinch of salt.

On the palate: creamy and feisty attack (white pepper and chili), then sweet malt with brasil nuts and vanilla. Dark chocolate, too. And a big salty note at the back of the tongue. But what punch!

The finish is sweet, warm and very long.

This is a Caper with a lot of 'Oomph', approx 80 EUR.
