Glenfarclas 1954 Family Cask - Drinks by the Dram

It's rare that I get a chance to sit and fully enjoy the delights of older drams.

Nose: For it's age this whisky presents a little hit of spirituous spice followed by a wiff of barley sugar dropping into an expected level of musk, cinnamon and a dominant sherry note. Oak, nutmeg, par cooked oats and cloves linger in the base.

Body: Thick at first, but diminished quickly

Palate: Without water this is both rich and intense with peppered spice. Sweetness and fruit are a napalm of flavours subsiding to wood tannic.

With water the napalm effect is gone and this is beautifully developed! Foxes Fruits and Christmas spice delight as it sits in the glass openning up over 45mis. The age shows (which is to be expected) with oak, Rummy, dark sugar and tannic chasing the fruit.

Finish: Long, oaked, drying.

Can imagine this being great with over extra aged steak and buttered horseradish spinach.
