Kilkerran 8 Year Old Cask Strength

@Pierre_W Thank you for the review of Kilkerran 8 yo CS. It is a pity that you do not detect any lemon on the nose and on the palate. The lemon flavor happens to be one of the major charms of the Kilkerran 12 yo.

@Pierre_W Interesting review and quite different from the canon of Kilkerran fans. The whisky sound more generic, less peculiar. I never had a Kilkerran and I am still curious but the buzz around it seems to receed. Thanks.

I would guess that the buzz that surrounded Kilkerran was coming from the fact that they were doing some quite unique releases year to year, And with a great product to boot. Now they only, "only", have their 12 year old as a core. Not s exciting but still a fabulous whisky it seems

@Pierre_W , you used words like "malty," "earthy," and "wood spice." Would you call this a "heavy" whisky? Any idea on whether they used any smaller casks in its maturation?

And you mention a 10-year-old. Did you mean the 12? Or is there a 10 I didn't know about in the UK? (I think you're in the UK—right?)

@Robert99 , your lack of Kilkerran always makes me sad. :) Have I told you before how I'd open up my Kilkerran bunker to you if you ever came to Madison, Wisconsin? The offer still stands!

@MadSingleMalt they did yearly releases to display the progress of he whisky. Release 6, I believe, is 10 years old.

@Alexsweden , good thinking there on the "buzz factor" that seems to push distilleries to come out with frequent new releases. It's a shame, really.

Like how nobody gives (say) Highland Park much attention for cranking out their 12-year-old every day, so they gotta release that Viking stuff instead to keep in the ever-moving spotlight.

That's all a good reason, I'd say, for us to keep chatting up our old favorites on places like Connosr. If we don't, we might just lose those old favorites in favor of some marketing team's latest shiny new object.

(All that said, I admit I can't wait to try this new Kilkerran 8 CS. Guilty!)

@MadSingleMalt, many thanks for your comments. Actually, I meant the 12-year old, apologies for the glitch, of which I am a big fan. It is just so much better balanced than this 8-year old. I am currently enjoying the WIP 7 Bourbon finish and admire this one, too. I guess so far it is only the 8-year old that did not impress me that much but then 85 points is not a bad score either, correct?

@Robert99, sorry to disappoint you but actually I am a big, big fan of Kilkerran. In fact the evenings spent with the 12-year old release were among the best ones this year. If you are new to Kilkerran (or just have not had the opportunity to taste it because there is so much other good stuff out there), I would recommend that you go straight for the 12-year old. You will not regret it.

@NamBeist, I share your view that lemon is among the prominent flavours of the 12-year old. This 8-year old is quite different in this respect, or at least I did not detect any lemons in here. Many thanks for your comment.

@MadSingleMalt Thank you for your generous offer. The only thing I know from Madisson is coming from the movie The bridges of Madisson County but I will not hold that against you ;) Anyway, we don't know what the future hold on for each of us, so thanks.

@Pierre_W I am happy you still have good whiskies that bring you pleasure. I was greeting your honesty and your ability to stand by your taste. At the same time, I was consciously sending a probe to get more infos about what Connosr's members really thing of Kilkerran. I don't take pleasure out of others msifortune but I, sometime, do appreciate whiskies vicariously. Cheers.

Ain't it a weird world!? Why, I heard they even speak French alongside Canadian in some parts of Canadia! :)

@MadSingleMalt Life is strange. One of the main street in Montreal (Quebec) is Ontario and there is a big Montreal Road in Ottawa (Ontario). By the way, where is Pennsylvania avenue? ;)
