This is not the first Longmorn bottled by the German Malts of Scotland. Previously released are a 36 Year Old from 1975 (have not tried it yet) and a 34 Year Old from 1976 (ditto). Let us see what this young (well, younger) Longmorn has to offer.
It has a sturdy nose full of vanilla and sweet malt, like a dark beer. Immediately thereafter a nice fruitiness emerges on peaches and citrus. Halfway through it becomes very bourbonny, spicy (think gingerbread) with a touch of marzipan.
It is slightly creamy on the palate, heavy on spices (nutmeg, ginger, pepper) and wonderfully sweet. Again peach and citrus and again bourbonny. A perfect continuation of the nose.
In the finish, that is long and remains sweet, the malt again rears its head.
This is a Longmorn Yankee! In a blind tasting, one could confuse this with a bourbon. A very good bourbon, mind you. Interesting cask selection!
