Im not a fan of small cask whisky, for me the Laphroaig Quarter Cask along with the other Springbank Rundlet's whiskies are not as good as their more regular counterparts. This however, is a delight.

  • Nose: bushfire, old rope, damp earth, soot, brine, pipe tobacco, some roasted nuts, tropical fruit and spiced honey. With water pipe tobacco, sweet toffee, a little richer.

  • Pallet: starts sweet, with apricot jam, then honeyed wood smoke, peat, pepper and chili. With water more contrast, more honey and some tiramisu but a little harsh as well.

  • Finish: mild peat, touch of chili, ginger again, with some coastal flavours, sea air and wood spice. With water similar but that nip spoils it a touch

  • Mark neat – 9.0 , with water 8.7

It's 11 going on 16, while there is a little harshness when water is added that can easily be avoided. I'm not a convert to the mini casks, but this is good so no worries
