Port Dundas 2004 / 11 Year Old / Old Particular

Douglas Laing clearly has a big stash of single grain whisky as they bottle it regularly in their Old Particular Range, amongst other. This Port Dundas, the grain distillery near Glasgow that closed its doors in 2009, is one of those. To me, it is only my fifth Port Dundas so far, so I cannot claim a lot of experience.

The nose is pretty spicy with loads of wood and wild flowers, but also young apples and sweet pears. Something that reminds me of marshmallow or candy sugar. The whole is sprinkled with nutmeg and a lost black pepper.

The arrival is soft, almost watery, but also very sweet. Quite a sugary kick to the teeth with sweet juicy pears and loads of icing sugar. Midpalate some condensed milk kicks in (you know, the ultra-sweet thick milk paste from a tube). Bizarre, but certainly pleasant.

The finish is medium long with the emphasis on the spices.

A nice Port Dundas, but nothing more. Around 50 EUR.
