Springbank 13 Year Old CS for The Nectar

This 13 Year Old Springbank was bottled for the Belgian market, ordered by The Nectar. Only 186 bottles were released. It is a single bourbon cask, bottled at a no nonsense 56,9% ABV.

The nose is pretty similar to the Duncan Taylor NC² bottle I recently tried, meaning that it is pretty sweet. But there the comparison ends. Here I get, next to the honey and vanilla, some more citrus. And also more typical Springbank traits: wet Gyproc and jute. Quite some coconut. Pineapple on the grill. Cinnamon. Turkish delight and wine gums. Yep, if you take your time for this one, you will find it has hidden talents. Pretty complex. Adding water barely changes anything.

Rolling creamily over the tastebuds, it is somewhat alcoholic at first, but immediately very fruity (again pineapple and coconut). Nice body. A pinch of pepper and some liquorice for decoration. Some peat too, but not overly much. Diluted it becomes a bit more palatable (well, doh, of course it does) and weakens the influence of the pepper, making it sweeter.

The finish is medium long and offers (unfortunately) nothing new.

Well, we are lucky with this Springbank for Belgium, I guess. Still to be found for some 70 EUR.
