The Dublin Liberties Oak Devil

Product info: a blend of double-distilled malt and grain whiskies from an unknown distillery (my guess is Cooley). Bottled without chill-filtration, according to the Internet.

Nose: lots of typical Irish fruitiness. Peach and apricot. Green banana. Slightly hot. Fresh wood in the background. Smells a little under-ripe but still fairly nice.

Taste: immediate perfumed sweetness, and an artificial fruit flavour. Very odd and out of sync. It reminds me of some cologne I've smelled before. Even the oak spices are sickly sweet and cloying.

Finish: fades on a bitter/sour note which does little to improve my outlook of this whiskey. Oak perfume lingers.

Balance: Not a terrible effort, but it's a weird one for sure. Something tells me this was bottled before it was ready. The only whiskey I can compare it to is Bastille from France, with all its weird wood influences. Overall, interesting and shows some promise at times but I wouldn't buy it again.
